ObsumE

Hello, I'm Mana.

Here, I write blog posts, and in future I'll be honoring my favouite things in a hall of fame not make any promises about future products. I hope you like it!

You can find me on GitHub as OneTrueGnu, but I don't have much there.

Outside of this website, I'm interested in programming, music, and mathematics. When programming, I'm either in Xcode, Neovim, or VSCode Zed. Xcode is for Apple-platform apps, Neovim is for when I'm programming C with CMake and ninja, and sometimes for my developing this website. Zed is kind of for everything else.

“Obsume” is a word I made up to generalise the concept of reading a book, playing a game, or listening to a song, etc. to a apply to any form of media, becuase I didn't like the off-the-shelf options. The most commonly used word here is “consume”, I think, but I don't like the sense of consumerism it gives to art, like we're just gobbling up the world.

I like to view language not as some magical object descended from the heavens, but as a tool that we made to communicate. So on the occasion that I think there is some new vocabulary which would improve English, I just use it – but that's a story for another time.

I know that somebody else has also taken up the Obsume name, over at obsume.com. It is a website which looks very “design”-y, and I think is trying to be funny, but isn't actually. Their serif font is super higgldey-piggledy, where the m and h look like they're trying not to fall over, and the s looks like it's about to. I basically just wanted to say that I got here first, and I'm not going to change the name just because they took it too.
